Semen Sales

The family farms comprising Shieldaig Croft, Killochries Fold, Balgay Farm and Drumcross farm have their finest bulls available for semen sales and export worldwide.

Semen is available from pedigree Highland, Shorthorn and Aberdeen Angus bulls.

Straws range from £35-£50 +VAT each (min 3 straw order) and discounts can be provided for larger orders. The sales are fulfilled using UK Sire services who charge a fee for the health certificate, administration and shipping.

Killochries Fold is constantly working on selecting the finest genetics to breed world-class cattle.  New bulls continue to come through and there are sometimes embryos available for export (Killochries currently have only two embryos remaining from an exceptional black Highland heifer).  Please contact Mairi McLellan for more information: info@shieldaigcroft.com

'Calum Seoladair Dubh 2nd of Killochries'

Calum Seoladair Dubh of Killochries (R1044 00065) was the first black home bred stock bulls at Killochries. He has excellent rib eye score and EBV and has produced the highest quality bulls both in the UK and overseas.

At the end of 2009 Killochries bought back one of his most successful sons, Calum Seoladair Dubh 2nd of Killochries and in the early part of 2010 we drew semen from this bull to protect this important bloodline.

Calum Seoladair Dubh 2nd of Killochries

Calum is a black bull and carries only the black gene.  The black gene is known for producing a very hardy strain of Highlander.

"In my grandfather's day no colour was considered right for highland cattle but black. The great thing then was to have a fold of black cows. No one would look at the reds and yellows and cream and duns, which are all the rage nowadays. Though the blacks have since become unpopular, I have been told by the very best of old judges of Highland cattle that there is nothing to beat the blacks for hardiness, and that new strains of fancy coloured cattle are much softer and have not the same constitution."

Osgood Mackenzie (1842 - 1922)

Pedigree Shorthorn semen

'Dambuster' and 'Braveheart', sons of Chapelton Typhoon

Dambuster at Shieldaig Croft

Dambuster is a three-year old pedigree Shorthorn bull. Dambuster himself has been too busy working in the Highlands to be shown and he is not for sale.

He stems from a long line of champions and is the half-brother of Braveheart, who was the male champion at the Highland show in 2009 and champion at the Perth Bull sale in 2010.

Braveheart and Dambuster are sons of Chapelton Typhoon. Braveheart was Typhoon's third son to win the Perth championship.

Bravheart is the Shorthorn stock bull based at our Balgay Farm (Perthshire). His half-brother, Dambuster is the Shorthorn stock bull at Shieldaig Croft.

Semen is currently available for Braveheart (2013) and is available for Dambuster on request.
